STREET ART IN THE COUNTRYSIDE

The topic of my scholarship at the Donnersbergkreis art association was the search for equivalents to the genuinely urban genre of street art “in the countryside” and to capture it in photographs. After the first obvious layers my previously narrow definition of street art started to defoliate. In the end, a mosaic of the most diverse discoveries created itself, was formed organically and wanted to be found in exaclty in this way.

Excerpt of the catalogue text by Wolf Münninghoff, Kunstverein Donnersbergkreis:
What is art? Where does design and creation start? What is coincidence? How does something become art? With the expansion of the definition of street art, Sandra Ratkovic follows the expanded concept of art. In doing so, she finds it in the profane. She captures motifs that not only don’t want to be art, but don’t even want to be design. At the same time, her photographs show that everything is design: putting things somewhere, putting them aside, leaving them somehere – all of this is also a creative act. Sandra Ratkovic walks through landscapes and villages with her camera as if through an exhibition.
